GDC Gbl holds literary event on ‘Modern Perspective and Lal Ded’

GANDERBAL, MAY 24: The Department of Kashmiri at Government Degree College Ganderbal organized a vibrant and intellectually stimulating literary event centered on the theme “Modern Perspective and Lal Ded.” The program aimed to explore the contemporary relevance of Lal Ded’s poetry and philosophy in the context of today’s evolving social and cultural landscape.

The event commenced with an introductory note by the host, Kamran Nazeer Student Department of Kashmiri 4th Semester, who warmly welcomed the esteemed dignitaries, faculty members, students, and guests. His graceful and articulate anchoring set a thoughtful and respectful tone for the proceedings.

The program began with a soul-stirring recitation of select verses (Vakhs) of Lal Ded by Suhail Rashid. His spiritually resonant delivery beautifully echoed the timeless wisdom of the revered mystic poetess, emphasizing her messages of divine love, inner transformation, and universal unity.

In her formal welcome address, Prof. Fouzia Fatima highlighted the relevance of Lal Ded’s philosophy in today’s world and praised the department’s initiative in selecting such a profound and culturally significant theme. She emphasized the need to keep Lal Ded’s spiritual and literary legacy alive through academic discourse and cultural expression.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Nusrat Iqbal, Head of the Department of Kashmiri, who offered a comprehensive overview of Lal Ded’s life, literary form, and historical significance. Dr. Nusrat iqbal emphasized how Lal Ded’s verses reflect a fearless quest for truth and her ability to transcend religious and social constructs, making her a symbol of harmony and spiritual insight.

The highlight of the event was the address by the distinguished Guest Speaker, Dr. Ashraf Zia. In his thought-provoking lecture, Dr. Zia delved into the theme “Modern Perspective and Lal Ded,” exploring how her teachings remain remarkably relevant in addressing the spiritual and ethical challenges of the contemporary world. He reflected on Lal Ded’s voice as one of protest against injustice, ignorance, and religious dogma—making her not just a poetess of the past, but a visionary for the present and future.

The event concluded with a sincere vote of thanks presented by Dr. Aashiq Hussain, who expressed his deep gratitude to all speakers, attendees, and organizing members.
