Ganderbal, November 12: The Government Degree College, Ganderbal today hosted an extensive lecture titled “Politics, Political Theory, and Social Spaces in the Contemporary World: Looking Beyond the Disciplinary Boundaries.”
The lecture was delivered by Dr Khalid Wasim Hassan, Senior Assistant Professor at the Department of Politics and Governance, Central University of Kashmir. The event, held at the college auditorium, was presided over by Prof Fouzia Fatima, the principal of the college.
In her opening remarks, Prof Fouzia highlighted the need for collaboration between nearby educational institutions, which can benefit both faculties and students. Dr Khalid, in his lecture, emphasized the importance of incorporating political theory into our everyday perspectives on the world. He explored the interrelationships between politics and society in the age of globalisation and explained how political theory continues to inform and shape contemporary political discourse.
Drawing on both classical and contemporary political thought, Dr Khalid examined the concepts of democracy, justice, state, and authority, stressing their relevance to understanding modern issues such as climate change, inequality, populism, and shifting global power dynamics. The lecture was attended by a diverse audience, including students and faculty members of social sciences. The programme concluded with a felicitation ceremony for the chief guest and a vote of thanks.
