FSI race: Kashmir skier to represent India in Kyrgyzstan

Srinagar: Kashif Bhat, a promising skier from Kupwara district, will be representing the country during an International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski tournament scheduled to be held in Kyrgyzstan next year.

The Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir (WGAJK) said by participating in the race, Kashif was aiming to qualify for the World Ski Championship.

“Kashif Bhat is selected to represent India in FIS Race to be held in Kyrgyzstan in February next year. Kashif, hailing from Kupwara is a promising skier. After Arif Khan, his aim is to qualify for world ski champ. We at WGAJK wish him luck for his future endeavours,” a WGAJK statement said.

Earlier, Valley based alpine skier Arif Mohammed Khan had qualified for the Winter Olympics 2022 to be held in Beijing.

J&K LG Manoj Sinha and people from all walks of life had congratulated Arif for his achievement.

“Congratulations to skier Arif Khan for qualifying for Beijing Winter Olympics2022. It is a proud moment for the whole country. @JKSportsCouncil to ensure Arif is provided with world-class training facilities by best-in-class coaches&support staff.I wish him all the best for games,” the LG had tweeted.
