From frying-pan and drill to bangle and necklace: EC issues list of 161 symbols for municipal polls

Srinagar, Sep 23:Election Commissions of Jammu and Kashmir has allotted symbols for the upcoming municipal polls, and it is one unique collection for the candidates to choose from.

Municipal polls, beginning October 8, have been boycotted by many state-based parties, making it an exercise majorly for the independent candidates, who do not have party logos to work as election symbols.

The ECI has released a diverse list of 161 symbols comprising anything that may fall between a frying pan and a drill.

More than four dozen symbols are household items such as cup and saucer, almirah, drill, gas stove, frying pan, pestle and mortar, and sewing machine.

A variety of foods items are also in the list, like a cake, ladyfinger, green chilli, capsicum, peas, grapes, pears, pineapple, and walnuts.

Toffees and ice-cream have also made it to the list alongside coat, pants, necktie, bangles, necklace, razor, and nail cutter.

Auto-rickshaw, tractor, road roller, truck, baby walker, and bicycle pump, carom board, hockey stick and ball, dumbbell, harmonium, and gramophone are also there.

As per the election commission, “The candidates registered with the ECI and sponsored by the state-based parties will be treated as candidates sponsored by unrecognised parties for the purpose of allotment of symbols.”
