In a shocking incident, former Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash was found murdered at his residence in HSR Layout, Bengaluru, on Sunday. The 68-year-old retired officer was discovered in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
At the time of the incident, his wife Pallavi and daughter Kruthi were present in the house. Police initially detained both for questioning, with Pallavi emerging as the prime suspect in the brutal crime.
According to a preliminary investigation, the murder was triggered by an ongoing domestic dispute over property. Om Prakash had reportedly transferred several assets to his son and other relatives, which had become a major source of contention between him and Pallavi. The couple had frequent arguments over the matter.
Sources revealed that Pallavi had previously filed a police complaint against her husband, accusing him of threatening her with a firearm and physically assaulting her. She had even staged a protest outside their home, demanding police action.
During her interrogation, Pallavi confessed to the murder in chilling detail. According to senior officers, she admitted to first blinding Om Prakash by throwing chilli powder in his eyes, pouring oil on his body, and tying his hands and feet. She then stabbed him repeatedly — 8 to 10 times — in the chest, stomach, and neck, causing massive blood loss. The former DGP reportedly writhed in pain for nearly 10 minutes in the living room before succumbing to his injuries.
Following the murder, Pallavi called the wife of another former police officer and told her, “I have killed the monster. I can live happily now,” before notifying the police control room.
Senior officers including DG-IGP Dr. Alok Mohan, ADGPs, and Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda visited the crime scene along with forensic experts from the Scene of Crime Office (SOCO).
Additional Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar Vikash stated that the police received a call around 4–4:30 p.m. and immediately responded. Om Prakash’s son, who was not at home at the time, has been contacted and is filing a formal complaint. Based on his statement, an FIR will be registered.
Police confirmed that a sharp-edged weapon was used in the murder and that the crime appears to have stemmed from personal grievances. As of now, no formal arrests have been made, and a detailed investigation is underway.
Om Prakash, a 1981-batch Indian Police Service officer, had served as Karnataka’s Director General of Police in 2015 before retiring. He had been living in HSR Layout with his wife and daughter since then.
