Srinagar, March 24: In a move to uphold public health, a team from the Food Safety Srinagar, a division of the Drug and Food Control Organization, conducted an intensive inspection of manufacturing units in the HMT Industrial Area, Srinagar. The operation was carried out under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din, focusing on units producing bakery items, sweets, and namkeen.

Led by Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety Srinagar, Yameen Ul Nabi, the inspection revealed that certain units were not adhering to the sanitary and hygienic requirements mandated by the Food Safety and Standards Act. As a result, three cases of insanitation were identified, and challans will be submitted to the Adjudicating Officer for further legal action.

During the inspection, the team also took the opportunity to educate Food Business Operators (FBOs), particularly those managing bakery units, on the importance of strict compliance with food safety regulations. Officials emphasized that adherence to these standards is crucial to ensuring the production of safe and high-quality food products for consumers.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din reiterated that such inspections will continue across the city to ensure that food items available in the market meet the prescribed safety and quality standards. This initiative aims to create a safer food environment and protect public health.

The Drug and Food Control Organization said it ‘remains committed’ to its mission of promoting safe and healthy dietary practices among the population.
