SRINAGAR, MARCH 03: The Food Safety team of the Drug and Food Control Organization Srinagar conducted inspections across various locations today, collecting samples and taking strict action against non-compliant food businesses. Acting on a tip-off, the team raided a chicken shop at Chinar Chowk, Rawalpora, where they discovered approximately 60 kg of stale chicken, 35 kg of internal chicken parts, and 25 kg of sheep fat in extremely poor condition, emitting a foul smell. The contaminated products were immediately destroyed, and the shop was shut down.
The Food Safety department has urged consumers to be vigilant while purchasing food products, advising them to check product labels for manufacturer details and use-by dates and to inspect raw food like chicken, mutton, and fish for any signs of spoilage or foul odor. Concerns about food safety violations can be reported to the department by dialing 104, ensuring swift action under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Food businesses, especially Nanwari outlets, have been advised to discard non-food grade plastic containers and maintain high standards of hygiene and sanitation to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
