SRINAGAR, MAY 19: The Food Safety Department has taken swift action to ensure public health and safety following a viral video on social media highlighting concerns about watermelon safety. A team of Food Safety Officers, led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Yameen ul Nabi, and Hilal Ahmad Mir of ICLC, conducted a special drive at Hyderpora Bypass, targeting street vendors selling cut watermelon under unhygienic conditions.
The vendors were found exposing their products to dust and flying insects, posing significant health risks. They have been given a two-day ultimatum to either cease sales or implement necessary protective measures to safeguard their products from environmental hazards.
The Food Safety Department is committed to enforcing food safety standards and protecting public health. Similar drives are being conducted across the region, and the department will continue to monitor the situation closely. The department aims to create a safe food environment through regular inspections, enforcement actions, and public awareness initiatives.
