Five Hollywood movies you should watch in May

Published

on

IST

Last month ended with an explosion that was Avengers: Infinity War. What was supposed to be the biggest Marvel movie became the biggest film in history. It had the highest opening for any film in both domestic (US) and worldwide markets. Avengers: Infinity War also became the film to have the biggest opening this year in India. May has many Hollywood releases that might end up giving it tough competition. Here are five Hollywood movies that you should watch in May.

Isle of Dogs

Wes Anderson’s stop-motion animation film Isle of Dogs has already earned a lot of praise from critics. The film has been praised for its humour, animation and story. Isle of Dogs has a 90% rating at Rotten Tomatoes with the consensus being, “The beautifully stop-motion animated Isle of Dogs finds Wes Anderson at his detail-oriented best while telling one of the director’s most winsomely charming stories.” It will release on May 4.

Tully

Charlize Theron returns in comedy film Tully directed by Jason Reitman. The film also stars Mackenzie Davis and Mark Duplass. Tully premiered at Sundance Film Festival this year and has received positive reviews with a 93% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. The synopsis reads, “A new comedy from Academy Award®-nominated director Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”) and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”). Marlo (Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron), a mother of three including a newborn, is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis).” Tully will also release on May 4.

Terminal

Margot Robbie has quickly established herself as one of the best young actors of Hollywood. She has to her credit some challenging roles like Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad and Tonya Harding in I, Tonya. In Terminal, she is playing the role of a mysterious woman. The film is a thriller and has a fine cast with names like Simon Pegg and Max Irons (son of Jeremy Irons). Directed by Vaughn Stein, Terminal will release on May 11.

Deadpool 2

Everyone’s favourite foul-mouthed anti-hero will be back sooner than you think. True to the spirit of the original, both Deadpool 2 trailers have mocked everyone from Superman’s moustache in Justice League to Thanos. And the film as well. All the original characters return, and there are a hell lot of new additions, including a new villain in Josh Brolin’s Cable. There is also a certain X-Force with members like Domino, Teenage Warhead, and others. Deadpool 2 will release on May 18.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Solo: A Star Wars Story will tell us about Han Solo before he met Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa in the original Star Wars. While Alden Ehrenreich essays the main role, Donald Glover plays the role of Lando Calrissian. The movie also stars Emilia Clarke and Woody. Joonas Suotamo is playing the role of Chewbacca. Solo: A Star Wars Story will release on May 25.

Apple Plans to Launch 3 iPhone Models in 2019, Including an LCD-Based iPhone XR Successor: Report

The Kashmir Monitor

Published

on

Apple reportedly plans to introduce three iPhone models this year, including a follow-up to the company’s much debated iPhone XR. The other two iPhone models will be the direct successors to the iPhone XS ? 94,050 and iPhone XS Max ? 104,395 phones, revealed a report. The Cupertino-based company is said to be bringing new camera features to the upcoming iPhone models, including a possible triple camera setup in the iPhone XS Max successor. The company has had a troubling 2018 because of the dwindling iPhone sales in China and other markets.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, Apple will continue with the three iPhone models release in 2019, citing people familiar with the matter. The company is said to be bringing follow-ups to all three 2018 models. The specifics of the upcoming iPhone models are a mystery at this point, but WSJ does add that the highest-end iPhone will feature a triple rear camera setup, whereas the other two iPhone models will pack two cameras on the back like the iPhone XS. The camera setup will be a change for the iPhone XR ? 72,190 successor as the existing model has a single camera on the back.

The report also reveals that Apple will continue with an LCD screen for the iPhone XR, partly since the “planned product has been in the product pipeline for months, and can’t be altered easily”. While 2019 planning are at an advanced stage, they are not completed, the report added. However the company will drop LCD entirely for the 2020 lineup and stick with the OLED panels, the report adds, citing some of the people. The current OLED panels used in the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max phones can be considered to be capable of offering better contrast than the LCD panel present on the iPhone XR. Apple’s 2020 plans are apparently in early stages right now and could be changed by the company. Apple traditionally introduces the new iPhone models in the Fall.

Unlike the previous years, Apple is struggling to keep the iPhone sales momentum and the follow-up models to the current crop will have a lot of pressure to perform for the company. It will be interesting to see if the company opts for the pricing strategy revision as that has been blamed as one of the reasons why the latest iPhone models are selling less in several markets.

The iPhone maker recently downgraded its first quarter sales guidance and blamed the weakening economy in China and lower-than-expected iPhone revenue. Over the past few months, several reports have come out claiming the company has reduced the production targets multiple times for the iPhone models.

Meanwhile, Apple CEO Tim Cook earlier this week stated that the company plans to announce new services this year. He did not share exactly which services we are going to see, but it is being speculated the company will finally launch its much-anticipated streaming TV platform.
