Srinagar, Aug 20: Additional Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal, today convicted Habibul Hassan Beigh, retired IAS officer and former member of the J&K Special Tribunal, in a long-pending disproportionate assets case.
ACB, in a statement, said: “Beigh, son of Gh. Hassan Beigh, and resident of Chinar Colony, Barzulla, Srinagar, was sentenced to one year of imprisonment and a fine of ₹15 lakh in connection with FIR No. 22/1997 registered at Police Station Vigilance Organization Kashmir (VOK), now Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Srinagar.
The case was registered on April 24, 1997, under Sections 5(1)(e), 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006, read with Sections 12 and 14 of the J&K Public Men & Public Servants Declaration of Assets and Other Provisions Act, 1983. The allegations stated that the accused had amassed huge movable and immovable assets disproportionate to his known sources of income during his service.
After extensive investigation, oral and documentary evidence conclusively proved the charges. The charge sheet was filed before the Anti-Corruption Court on November 13, 2000, and after years of judicial proceedings, the court pronounced its verdict today.
