Srinagar: Engineering students of 2017 Batch pursuing their degree at the Zakura Campus, University of Kashmir and SSM College of Engineering are living a nightmare.

The students claim that due to Covid crisis and university apathy, their degree has been delayed inordinately. First, the examination of their final semester was held in November/December rather than August, while no reason was provided for the delay.

“The examination of our final semester was to be held in the month of August 2021, supposedly but was held in November/December of the year. An engineering student of the batch said, adding, that every other department conducted exams without a hitch.

“But our department delayed the exam by months for reasons that were never communicated to us,” he said, wishing not to be named.

The students lament that this delay has cost them precious time as they have missed out on several opportunities to apply for jobs and further studies.

Moreover, they emphasised that their backlog examinations for the previous semesters have not been held. “As such our degree will be delayed even further, as our degrees are incomplete with no sign of completion in sight,” the student said.

The students have urged the university “to take the situation seriously, act on a priority basis”, and not waste any more time for the sake of their careers.

Controller Examination Irshad Nawchoo said the Dean of the Engineering School KU is the proper authority to comment on the issue.

The Kashmir Monitor tried to get in touch with Dean School of Engineering Professor Muzzafar Andrabi through calls and text. However, he was unavailable for comment.
