DGP J&K Reviews Security Preparedness for SANJY

Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP), J&K, Nalin Prabhat (IPS) on Sunday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Conference Hall of PCR Kashmir to assess and strengthen the security arrangements for the smooth, safe and peaceful conduct of the forthcoming Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.

The meeting witnessed the participation of senior police officers from across Jammu and Kashmir, including Special DGP Coordination J&K S.J.M. Gillani, ADGP Armed J&K, ADGP CID, Inspectors General of Police of PHQ Headquarters, Kashmir Zone, Jammu Zone, Railways, Traffic and CID, besides all Range Deputy Inspectors General of Kashmir and Jammu Zones.

DIG of IRP Kashmir, CID Kashmir, Traffic Kashmir, Armed Jammu, Armed Kashmir, Security and Railways also attended the meeting. All District Senior Superintendents of Police of J&K, along with Principal Directors, AIG (CT & Intelligence) PHQ, SSP of PCR Kashmir and Jammu, Traffic City Srinagar, Railways Kashmir, Traffic Rural Kashmir, Security Kashmir, CID Special Branch Kashmir, CID Counter Intelligence Kashmir, APCR Srinagar and Jammu, Telecom Kashmir, Traffic City Jammu, Traffic Rural Jammu, National Highway Wing, SP Cargo Srinagar and other senior officers were also present.

Reviewing the overall security scenario and preparedness, the DGP directed officers to maintain a high state of operational readiness and ensure seamless coordination among all security agencies involved in Yatra duties.

He instructed officers to maintain heightened vigilance at all sensitive and vulnerable locations and ordered enhanced surveillance measures, regular area domination exercises, intensified Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) and continuous patrolling along the Yatra routes, railway tracks, vulnerable pockets and major tourist destinations.

The DGP further directed that daily anti-sabotage checks be carried out on all Yatra routes and major arterial roads, ensuring round-the-clock security domination to prevent any untoward incident.

To strengthen emergency response mechanisms, Nalin Prabhat ordered the deployment of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) at strategic locations to provide immediate assistance whenever required.

Emphasising public awareness, he directed officers to ensure wide publicity regarding the prescribed cut-off timings for Yatra movement so that pilgrims and the general public remain informed and adhere to the established protocols.

The DGP also instructed officers to conduct regular inspections of security arrangements and facilities established for Yatra pilgrims.

Highlighting the importance of technology-driven policing, Nalin Prabhat stressed the optimum utilisation of modern surveillance systems, including extensive CCTV monitoring, at transit camps, base camps and along the pilgrimage routes.

He further directed effective implementation of RFID-based tracking and monitoring systems to enhance security mechanisms and improve emergency response capabilities concerning pilgrims and authorised Yatra vehicles.

The police chief also directed officers to maintain a close watch on terrorist associates and anti-national elements, while ensuring adequate deployment of forces in hinterland areas and other vulnerable locations. He stressed the need to secure all sensitive installations and critical infrastructure linked to the annual pilgrimage.

Nalin Prabhat instructed District SSP to work in close coordination with the civil administration to ensure effective implementation of both security and logistical arrangements. He also called for efficient deployment of personnel along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other critical points to facilitate the safe movement of pilgrims and tourists.

The DGP underscored the importance of regular coordination meetings and comprehensive contingency planning to deal with emergencies arising from disasters, fire incidents, adverse weather conditions and other unforeseen situations.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the DGP also reviewed security arrangements for the upcoming Muharram observances and the annual Mela Kheer Bhawani. He directed officers to ensure effective crowd management and maintain close coordination with all concerned agencies for the peaceful and smooth conduct of these important events.

The meeting concluded with the DGP directing all officers to remain fully prepared, vigilant and committed towards ensuring a smooth, safe, secure and peaceful Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 across Jammu and Kashmir.
