Srinagar, Mar 09: The post-graduate students at Dental College Srinagar on Friday alleged that the Head of the Department (HoD) has been engaging them in his personal.
Staging a protest in the college premises, they said they have been “suffering miserably” because of the mismanagement in the departments of Orthodontics and Orthopedics.
“The HoD, Mohammad Mushtaq Ahmad, has been behaving rudely with the students. We are post-graduate students. He asks us to pick or drop him at the airport. Irony is that he also asks to take his wife to Airport and other places in and around Srinagar city,” said Dr Gurdev Singh Bali, a second year PG student.
Another post-graduate student, Dr Rameez Hassan said he was slapped by the HoD several times.
“I was slapped thrice for no fault. It is totally unbearable. We are not kids, we are PG students. We have been treated like kids. We brought the matter into the notice of the concerned authorities, but nothing happened,” he said.
They said that the HoD does not permit them to send patients to Dr Zameer Saeed, an Associate Professor.
“We tried many a times but we had to face the wrath of the HoD. The HoD arrives at 11:30 am, we fail to see harm in sending the patients to Dr Zamir Saeed,” a protesting student said.
However, Dr Mohammad Mushtaq Ahmad refuted all the allegations.
He said that the students have been protesting just to hide their discrepancies.
“Among the PG students, Rameez Hassan and Abhisheikh Khajuria have not submitted their thesis. The last date for submission was December 31. A false propaganda is being carried out against me,” he said.
He said nothing adverse was found against him by the committees constituted to look into the allegations.
“The Principal of the college formed a committee to look into the complaint filed by a student that I had slapped him, but the committee, after thorough investigation, find nothing of this sort. Kashmir University (KU) also constituted a committee, but exonerated. On all platforms, I was proved innocent,” he said.
He said the students took him to the police station.
“They charged me of physical assault. When the officer asked for medical examination, they ran away,” he said.
“I am a man of stature. In 2015, I was awarded Fradent Excellence award at Mumbai,” he added.
“I always come to the hospital in time. The students are lying. Apology was tendered by the students, which makes it clear that they themselves have been creating the mess,” he said.
