Srinagar: Throwing all social distancing advisories to the wind, huge gatherings of people have approached several J&K Bank branches in Kashmir, most queuing to withdraw the amount credit in to their accounts by the government.
At Jammu and Kashmir Bank branches in Magam and Chadoora in Budgam district and Seer Hamadan in Anantnag, Nayidyaar in Rainwari Srinagar, among other places, long queues of people including elderly were witnessed waiting for their turn to withdraw the money.
As per them, the account holders who are registered with Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna have received SMS to withdraw money credited to them under the scheme.
“We got the message on phone and now we are here to withdraw the amount. We are going through tough time and need this money now to meet our expenses,” one of the beneficiary who was standing in a queue outside J&K Bank Magam branch told The Kashmir Monitor over the phone.
Chairman J&K Bank R K Chhibber, however, said the beneficiaries can use ATMs to withdraw the money while maintaining social distance.
“The money is credited to the accounts of beneficiaries but it doesn’t mean that all should withdraw it today. The money belongs to them and won’t go anywhere. They can withdraw amount after April 14 also. The account holders could have used ATMs instead of vesting banks,” he told The Kashmir Monitor.
In that case jk bank should have provided them with Atm card . @CMD jk bank
