COVID19: Shopian man tests positive day after his death, toll 28

Srinagar: A day after his death, a 70-year-old man from South Kashmir’s Shopian district was on Friday tested positive, thus taking the overall death toll due to the deadly virus in Jammu and Kashmir to 28.

A 70-year-old old man from Baghandar area of Shopian who died at SMHS on Thursday was tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, officials said.

Medical Superintendent, SMHS, Dr Nazir Choudary said that a 70-year-old man from Shopian was admitted at the hospital on May 27, stating that the man was suffering from pneumonia and he died on Thursday.

After his death, sample was taken for COVID-19 testing, which came positive on Friday, he said.

Dr. Salim Khan, Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at GMC Srinagar said that 70-year-old male from Aliarpora, Bagander Shopian was admitted on 27-05-2020 as pneumonia with underlying hypertension and diabetes mellitus.

He said that the patient died on Thursday evening and on Friday, his sample reports came positive.

With his death, the overall death toll due to COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 28 including 25 from Kashmir division and three from Jammu division –(KNO)
