On Thursday, officials kick-started the process of sealing all important shrines and mosques, especially in Srinagar, to ensure people remain indoors and not assemble for prayers tomorrow.
Interestingly, on Wednesday night, hundreds of people had assembled outside the revered Charari Sharief Shrine at around 11 pm to offer repentance, disregarding the official lockdown and thereby putting in danger the entire community.
“Dozens of people assembled late at night. There was hue and cry all over. Police had to intervene and even use force to disperse the people and send them back home,” said a resident of Charar Sharief.
He said that police had to baton charge the people, who had ignored the official lockdown order, and assembled in huge numbers in the premises of the shrine.
