Srinagar, Jan 11: The Consolidated and part-time sweepers of the Health Department from Kupwara district, on Thursday, held a protest at Srinagar’s press enclave, demanding regularization of their services.
Raising slogans in their favor, the workers, around 50 in number demanded regularisation on the similar pattern of the recent government order.
Last week, the government ordered regularization of 60,000 workers by passing an SRO confirming their services.
“Health department is incomplete without us, we ensure the cleanness and hygiene of the hospitals where thousands of people visit each day and we are getting remuneration of Rs 100-1000 from last 25 years”, said Gulam Mohammad, one of the protesters.
“We are not being regularised under the SRO 520. We have sacrificed a lot even during we have been performing our duties day and night with full dedication and ensured the cleanness of the hospitals. Most of us even performed night duties but unfortunately nobody is paying attention towards us”, said Abdul Ahamad Sheikh, president of the sweepers Union.
The workers claimed their services were even used during pulse polio.
“We request Chief Minister to consider our regularisation otherwise we will be forced to come on roads,” the spokesman said.
