Tangdhar, May 13: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday visited the border area of Tangdhar in Kupwara district to assess the damage caused by recent cross-border shelling and to express solidarity with affected families. The visit is part of his ongoing outreach to residents in forward areas impacted by hostilities along the Line of Control.
Accompanied by Advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, MLAs Mir Saifullah, Qaiser Jamshed Lone, and Javaid Mirchal, along with DC Kupwara Ayushi Sudan and SSP Ghulam Jeelani Wani, the Chief Minister toured multiple villages including Hajinard, Nachiyan, Shamspora, Baghbela, Batpora, and Tarboni.
During his interactions, Omar Abdullah inspected the damaged houses and heard the grievances of the affected residents. He praised their courage in the face of adversity, stating, “Their resilience is inspiring. The government stands with them, and all necessary steps will be taken to help them rebuild their lives with dignity and renewed hope.”
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, he stressed that the safety, welfare, and swift rehabilitation of affected families remain a top priority.
The Chief Minister also visited the Sub-District Hospital in Tangdhar to review healthcare services. He inspected departments including OPD, IPD, Gynaecology, Operation Theatre, Ultrasonography, and X-Ray units. Speaking to doctors, medical staff, and patients, he urged them to ensure compassionate and dedicated care for people in this remote region.
Interacting with the media, Omar Abdullah said he had come personally to assess the ground situation and assured that relief and rehabilitation measures would be implemented promptly.
He also reviewed community bunkers in Tangdhar, recognizing their vital role during shelling incidents. He assured the public that more community and individual bunkers will be constructed in coordination with the Union Government to improve safety infrastructure in vulnerable zones.
In addition, he inspected the Hydel Power Project at Gundi Shart, the progress of which was disrupted due to recent tensions. He assured that the project will be completed within the stipulated timeline.
