Srinagar, Oct 10: Junaid Mattoo, who recently resigned from National Conference (NC) to contest Urban Local Body (ULB) elections, on Wednesday said that taking part in the electoral process was a “war to keep democracy alive”.

Matoo said many people have rendered sacrifices in the past and it was “our duty to take care of their contributions”.

“The election is for poor. To cast vote, is everybody’s right. We hope that successful candidates will take care of the needs and aspirations of the people,” he said at Solina polling booth.

He termed the killing of two NC workers as “unfortunate”.

“Their sacrifices won’t go waste,” he said.

Not happy with the decision of his party to boycott the Urban Local Body and Panchayat polls, Junaid Matoo on September 25 resigned from the party.
