CHINAR International starts final selection for third cohort of SBS project

Srinagar: CHINAR International, a social impact organisation working for children, youth and communities in Kashmir started a four-day Small Business Support (SBS) program with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) as knowledge partners at the Sangarmaal City Centre.

An organiser of the programme said the purpose of the event was to make the final selection of candidates for third cohort of SBS.

“The project will support 20 businesses with a start-up support of up to 1.5 lac per business unit. The selected applicants will be also provided technical, marketing, legal, and accounting guidance. A total of 260 applicants had applied for the program from all the districts of the Kashmir division. After a three-tier filtration process, 40 applicants got shortlisted for the final round where they will present their business ideas before the panellists,” he said.

The panellists include Prof. Satyajit Majumdar – Dean school of management and labour studies, Tata institute of social sciences (TISS), Sujay Dixit- vice president incubation center, Tata institute of social sciences (TISS), Prof. Saad Parvez- Head of incubation cell, NIT Srinagar, and Irfan Shahmiri- Global Executive Director- CHINAR International. All panellists hold expertise and experience in the field of innovation, incubation, and social entrepreneurship.

On the first three days of the program, applicants will present their ideas along with inspirational and motivational speeches from existing young entrepreneurs.

A training and capacity building program will be conducted by TISS faculty and CHINAR team post felicitation ceremony of top twenty candidates on day four.

The goal of Small Business Support program is to support youth coming from low-income families to become self-reliant. It is pertinent to mention that the organisation supported twenty in the first two cohorts of SBS who are successfully running their units today.
