BANDIPORA, SEPTEMBER 03: On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, an awareness and counselling programme on the monkey menace was today held at the Forest Training Institute, Chitternar.
The programme aimed to sensitize locals of Ayathmulla, Checkreshipora, Ahamsharief, and adjacent villages regarding the strategies to be adopted for eradicating the monkey menace, which has been persistently troubling the area.
Officials from the departments of Wildlife, Forest, Revenue, Agriculture, Horticulture, Rural Development, Information, and allied agencies participated in the programme and sensitized locals about preventive and remedial measures. The officers highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts and community involvement to address the recurring problem.
Threadbare discussions were held on devising both long-term and short-term strategies to repel the menace. Resource persons emphasized practical measures including plantation drives, fencing of vulnerable areas, use of sound guns and repellents, sterilisation (where feasible), and community vigilance.
Local representatives including Sarpanchs, Lumberdars, Chowkidars, and senior citizens of the area also attended the programme and shared their concerns, while the local populace was encouraged to adopt the suggested strategies and extend full cooperation to the concerned departments.
