Army man killed in mine blast along LoC

Srinagar, Aug 25: An army soldier was killed and another injured in separate landmine explosions near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.
Quoting a police officer said that that the army’s 5/9GR was on a routine patrol duty in Gogal Dar area when the blasts took place late last night.
“In the incident, one soldier Abishekh Chhetri sustained multiple splinter injuries and was taken to 168 military hospital Drugmulla for treatment,” he said.
Similarly, another landmine blast took place near Balbir Post along LoC in Keran in which Rifleman Nihal Gurang of 5/9 GR suffered critical injuries and was taken to nearby medical facility of army where from he was airlifted to 92 base military hospital Badamibagh in Srinagar, the officer said.
An army officer based in Kupwara confirmed that the soldier succumbed at Badamibagh hospital.

SPO goes missing with rifle in Shopian

Srinagar, Aug 25: A special police officer (SPO) has gone missing along with an AK-47 rifle from police station Shopian in south Kashmir on Saturday.
Sources said that the SPO has been missing and has taken AK-47 rifle of another cop from the station today in the morning.
The SPO has been identified as Showkat Ahmad of Hermain village of Shopian.
Following the incident, police have sounded an alert across the south Kashmir and launched a hunt to nab the fleeing SPO.
A top police officer told GNS that an AK rifle is missing at police station Shopian since today morning.
The officer said that the SPO is suspected to have decamped with the rifle.
“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations were taken up,” the officer said. (GNS)
