Ansari meets Governor

Srinagar, July 14: Imran Raza Ansari, MLA Pattan and former Minister, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan today.
Ansari informed Governor about the problems relating to the implementation of certain major development projects in his Constituency and offered several suggestions about the measures necessary to streamline the higher education sector, including higher attention to skill development programmes and the promotion of sports, for the holistic development of youth.
Governor urged Ansari to continue his efforts for promoting a peaceful environment in his area and work zealously for advancing the interests of J&K.

Delhi HC grants protection to JK rape victim, her husband

New Delhi, Jan 20: An alleged rape victim and her husband, who have temporarily shifted here from Jammu and Kashmir apprehending threat to their lives, have been given protection by the Delhi High Court.
The high court was informed by the couple that personal circumstances forced them to leave their native place and made serious allegations against some police officials and political workers.
The couple claimed that the woman was allegedly physically assaulted and raped and the man was kept in detention for several days by the Jammu and Kashmir police and now he was out on bail.
The court directed the concerned DCP of Delhi Police to look into the matter and forthwith provide protection to the couple and that their address shall not be disclosed to any other person except the government counsel.
“The petitioners’ (couple) residence in the NCT of Delhi shall not be disturbed, except by due process of law and with prior intimation to this court,” Justice Najmi Waziri said.
The couple said they had approached the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in September 2018 seeking protection and the court had directed the state to look into the matter of providing protection to the petitioners.
However, they claimed that no protection was accorded to them and they apprehend a grave threat to their life, limb and liberty and were constrained to temporarily shift to Delhi.
The Delhi High Court directed the concerned DCP to look into the matter and forthwith provide due protection to the couple and asked the police officials to give their numbers to them so that they can reach out for help in case of any exigency.

Upcoming snow spell: Avalanche warning issued for Kashmir, Ladakh districts

Srinagar, Jan 19: Kashmir areas experienced fresh snowfall on Saturday, with the weather office forecasting more in store for the next three days.
“A western disturbance (WD) is presently active over the state under whose influence moderate to heavy snowfall is likely to occur in the valley till January 23 after which the intensity of the WD will start decreasing,” a Met Department official said here.
District administrations have set up helplines to help prevent any untoward incident due to the heavy snowfall.
Meanwhile Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan Saturday issued fresh avalanche warning for nine avalanche prone districts of Kashmir division.
The warning has been issued for the avalanche-prone areas of district Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kargil and Leh.
As per the hand out, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has directed the Deputy Commissioners of all these districts to advise the people living in avalanche prone areas not to venture out to avoid the loss of lives.
The Div Com also directed the concerned DC’s to take all the precautionary measures and to keep the SDRF, Police and Para-medical staff with ambulances in readiness to avert any untoward incident.
While the nightlong cloud cover increased minimum temperatures throughout the valley on Saturday, the maximum temperatures are expected to drop further, the weather official said.
Srinagar recorded minus 2.0 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam minus 4.4 and Gulmarg minus 7.0 as the minimum temperatures.
Leh town had minus 9.2 degrees Celsius and Kargil minus 18.9 as the night’s lowest temperature.
Jammu city recorded 8.3 degrees Celsius, Katra 9.1, Batote 3.9, Bannihal 2.3 and Bhaderwah 1.3 as the minimum temperatures.
