Srinagar, July 28: The SPO abducted on Friday night was let go by militants following intense appeals from his family, who begged for mercy in a video.

The cop Mudasir Ahmad Lone was abducted by militants Friday night from his home in Chankitar village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

On Saturday, his family made an emotional plea in a video, appealing to the militants to forgive and release him from their custody following which the latter did release him.

“We had planned to kill you but we are releasing you because you have three younger sisters and you are their only support,” a purported video showing a militant speaking to Mudasir went viral late Saturday evening.

In the video, Mudasir can be seen advising other cops like him to “leave the job.”

“We were told to work as informers and report those helping militants and throwing stones,” he says in the video.

In an emotional appeal that had gone viral on social networking websites, the mother of the SPO surrounded by her three daughters, said: “He is my only son among four children. He (Mudasir) had to come back home (to quit the job) and was to declare it this Friday in the mosque. However, he got engaged in some work and didn’t get time.”

She appealed to the militants to have mercy on her and her three daughters and set Mudasir free for Allah’s sake.

“You are also my own children. I request you to kindly set him free and he will quit the job and apologise for all his mistakes. If you hear of any complaint in future you can kill all of us,” she said.
