SRINAGAR, AUGUST 12: The Annual Ahad Zargar Day was celebrated today at the shrine of renowned Sufi poet and saint Abdul Ahad Zargar in Narwara area of old Srinagar city.
The event drew thousands of devotees and admirers throughout the course of the day. The event brought together folk artists from across the Kashmir Valley, who performed soulful renditions of the saint’s poetry, celebrating his legacy as a literary luminary and spiritual icon of Kashmir.
The gathering was graced by eminent writers, intellectuals, academics, and members of civil society. As part of the celebrations, Annual Awards were presented to two distinguished contributors to literature and the arts. Writer and translator Mushtaq Barq was honoured for his work on Sufi poetry, while folk artist Gulzar Ahmad Ganai was recognised for his contributions to Kashmiri folk music. The awards were presented by Rafiq Raaz, Chairman of the Foundation, and Khurshid Zargar, its Patron.
Speakers at the event reflected on the life, works, and spiritual message of Ahad Zargar, highlighting his enduring influence on Kashmiri literature, music, and culture. The celebrations served as both a tribute to his memory and an affirmation of the region’s rich Sufi heritage.
