Adv Sharma takes review of tourism sector

Srinagar, Nov 24: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, K.K Sharma Sunday chaired a review meeting with the officials of Department of Tourism—directing officers to work for the implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes to promote tourism.

Addressing the officers during a meeting here at Srinagar, the Advisor Sharma stressed for reviewing each of the project and directed the officials to spend the available funds diligently so that these do not get lapsed. He also reviewed the implementation of various schemes to promote tourism across Jammu and Kashmir.

The Advisor sought project wise detailed information of commencement and completion dates of all these projects including construction of wayside facilities, facilitation centres, cafeterias, public conveniences to be constructed for the better experience of the travellers.

Advisor Sharma urged the officials to envisage new projects after thoroughly determining their feasibility and viability. He stressed that the tourism infrastructure should be physically pleasing and aesthetically gratifying. He said that necessary renovations, improvements, or up gradation of infrastructure, wherever required should be made rapidly.

Advisor Sharma further said that efforts were underway to bring Jammu and Kashmir on international tourist pilgrimage map as the region is replete with the historical religious sites of immense importance.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of the tourism department and other concerned.
