Srinagar, Jan 8: Not going beyond its warnings on paper to the institutes, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has failed to get majority of the coaching centres in the valley to reveal the details of fee structure and other facilities.
While the DSEK, in stages rather than at once, has granted registration to close to 300 coaching centres across the valley, sources told The Kashmir Monitor that not even half of them had yet revealed the details over fee structure and faculty.
With as many as 80-90 coaching centres granted registration by the DSEK in Srinagar alone, an official from the School Education Department, said that “hardly ten” of the centres had revealed the details.
The coaching centres, the official said, were supposed to publish in newspapers the details of the fee structure, faculty and enrollment of the students besides furnishing the details to the concerned district-level officials.
Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of several other districts The Kashmir Monitor spoke to, also said that a mere fraction of the coaching centres registered by the DSEK, had revealed the details as on date.
With around more than 30 centres in both the districts, CEOs from two districts of the valley said that the number of the coaching centres, which have revealed the details over fee structure and faculty were not even more than 6.
“Despite several communications to the centres, hardly 5-6 of them have revealed the details,” a CEO said.
Over the meager number of centres that have revealed the details so far, an official in the School Education Department from another district said that the number of such centres was “not beyond five per cent”.
The DSEK on December 2 gave the coaching institutes in the valley two days’ time to publish fee structure and other details or face derecognition.
“A final notice is given to you to publish the item wise fee structure and details of faculty members as per format available on website of DSEK, within two days, failing which registration of coaching centre will be  cancelled and will be sealed without any further notice,” read the DSEK’s notice.
Director School Education Kashmir, G N Itoo could not be contacted as his phone was continuously switched off.
