Srinagar, Sep 18: The Fee Fixation Committee on Tuesday said the recognition of RP School and Green Valley Educational Institute was cancelled on the basis of complaints received against them.
“Complaints were received against RP School and Green Valley that they are charging high fee from the students, after which action was taken against them,” Chairman of the committee, Hakeem Imtiyaz, told The Kashmir Monitor.
He said the committee cannot take action against any school without receiving any complaint from the parents.
“Almost every private school is violating the norms of the committee, but we can only take action when there is a complaint. Parents shall come forward and act wisely against the fee hike in the schools,” he said.
Asked whether there was any monitoring by the committee over fee structure set by various schools, he said, “It is not our task. The parents have to do it.”
Of the expensive top ten schools in the valley—they comprise G D Goenka, DPS Srinagar, Biscoe and Mallinson School, Burn Hall School, Green Valley Educational Institute, Presentation Convent School, Foundation World School, Hat Trick Public School, RP School Malla Bagh, and Doon International—only two have been derecognised.
President Private School Association, G N Var, said, “Among the top ten school in the valley, RP School has lowest monthly and admission fee structure.”
Action against the two schools has created a debate on social media, with many criticising the authorities for ignoring the other schools.
A parent, Masood Rashid wrote on social media, “I strongly condemn biased and selective action by DSEK against RP School Malla Bagh. My children are reading in the same school. The fee structure is less compared to other schools or equal.”
