Abducted cop found dead in Qaimoh

Srinagar, July 21: A trainee police constable who was abducted by suspected militants late Friday night was found dead on Saturday in Qaimoh area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The body of Muhammad Saleem Shah, son of Abdul Gani Shah was recovered near ghat at Odipora in Qaimoh Saturday afternoon, said an official.

He said a group of gunmen barged inside his home at Mutalhama village Friday night and abducted him.

Saleem was taken to an unknown destination, the official said.

The officer said that a police team immediately reached the spot and taken the body for all legal medico formalities in the postmortem.

Saleem, who was earlier working as a Special Police Officer (SPO) was recently promoted as constable.

He had come home on leave few days back from Kathua where he was undergoing training.

Condemning the abduction and killing of slain trainee constable, police termed the incident as ‘cowardly act’, saying that they stand with his family at this hour of grief.

“Our colleague Salem Ahmed Shah was abducted and killed by terrorists in Kulgam. We condemn this cowardly act. We all stand by his family at this critical juncture,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

Earlier this month, on July 5, in a similar incident, Jammu and Kashmir policeman Javaid Dar was abducted by militants from Shopian district. His dead body was found in Kulgam the next day.

Indian Army soldier Aurangzeb, who was a resident of Kashmir’s Poonch district, was also abducted by militants in Pulwama, while he was going to his hometown on leave for Eid. His body was found at Gusoo Pulwama on June 14. Mohammad Saleem Shah is the latest forces personnel victim who has been targeted by the militants in the valley.
