Srinagar, Jan 08: Jammu and Kashmir State Hajj Committee held the Hajj Qurrah or draw of lots on Tuesday and finalised the list of pilgrims scheduled to perform Hajj this year.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) State Hajj Committee, Qammar Sajjad said that 9762 aspirants were selected today in the Qurrah.

He added that in many districts including Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Kargil, Kathua, Ramban and Reasi, the number of applications were less, therefore all the applications were selected without going through Qurrah.

He added Qurrah was held for other remaining districts to select the aspirants who will perform Hajj this year. Sajjad further added that the Hajj quota was increased by 3762, saying that at least 1702 elderly aspirants were selected without Qurrah.

About the aspirants who are in waiting list, Sajjad said the trend of applicants across the country is less this year, therefore there are more chances for 1000-1500 aspirants who are in waiting list to perform Hajj this year.“I appeal the Hajj aspirants to prepare themselves for the challenges they are going to face while performing Hajj this year,” he said.
