Sopore, Feb 05: In a heart wrenching incident, a 6-year-old child was mauled to death by dogs at Wadoora village in north Kashmir’s Sopore town on Monday.
As per locals, the minor girl Hadiya Mushtaq, daughter of Mushtaq Ahmed Dar was coming back from Madrassa when a pack of stray dogs attacked her near the river in Wadoora.
The child was left brutally injured especially on her head and succumbed even before people could reach to the spot.
Soon after, locals lashed out at authorities for failing to save human lives by not taking any steps to eliminate the stray dogs.
They asked the higher authorities to come out of their deep slumber and to do something about the growing menace of stray dogs.
Police registered a case in this regard.
Interestingly, Syed Mateen, Executive Officer, Sopore Municipal Council, told The Kashmir Monitor that the area, Wadoora, did not come in their limits.
“Wadoora does not come in our jurisdiction,” he said.
Asked whose jurisdiction if fell, Mateen said: “No one’s since it is a village”
Asked what was the number of stray dogs in Sopore and when was the last dog census done in the town, he said that he did not have the information as he had joined recently.
