Speculation around the return of the Ford Endeavour in India has been growing ever since Ford announced plans to restart operations at its Chennai plant. While this move sparked excitement among enthusiasts, the company remains silent on whether the popular SUV is part of the strategy.
The American automaker recently confirmed it will reopen the Chennai facility to support global exports. However, this does not necessarily mean the Endeavour is making a comeback. Ford has clarified that its focus is on leveraging India as a cost-effective export hub, targeting markets like Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. India’s port infrastructure and favorable bilateral trade agreements make it an ideal base for such operations.
As of now, there’s no official word on any model being produced for domestic consumption. Even if Ford decides to bring the Endeavour back, it will likely be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), significantly increasing its price. Given the dominance of the Toyota Fortuner in the segment, a pricier Endeavour may struggle to gain traction.
For now, enthusiasts hoping for the SUV’s return may have to wait longer, as Ford seems focused more on global supply chains than re-entering the Indian passenger vehicle market.
