SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 02: A grand function was organized to commemorate the 200-year legacy of the Muran Family for their exceptional contributions to the art of walnut wood carving.
The event brought together notable speakers, including poet Zarief Ahmad Zarief, who highlighted the family’s cultural significance, saying, “The Muran Family has not only preserved a craft but has also woven the essence of our culture into every piece they create.” Saleem Beigh, a member of the National Monuments Authority, described their work as a testament to generations of dedication and called for greater societal recognition of craftsmen.
Prominent hotelier Mushtaq Chaya emphasized the heritage value of their craft, stating, “The Muran Family’s work is not just about wood; it’s about storytelling and heritage.” Deputy Director Handicrafts Shahid Ali also addressed the gathering, commending the family’s contribution to Kashmir’s art and culture.
Muhammad Yousuf Muran and Mudasir Muran, representing the current generation of the family, were felicitated by dignitaries, including Sheikh Ashiq, Sheikh Feroz, Inam Ul Nabi, Hatrick Group Chairman Chowdary, Rouf Panjabi, Faiz Khan, Rafiq (Assistant Director, Handicrafts), Manzoor Pakhtoon, Aqib Chaya, Parwaiz Bhat, and others.
Eminent journalist Bilal Bashir Bhat, along with Rameez Makdoomi and Khurshied Qureshi, read a citation honoring Paradise Wood House, a franchise run by the Muran Family, highlighting their innovation and commitment to excellence in wood carving.
Veteran journalist Riyaz Masroor expertly moderated the proceedings. Attendees admired a display of walnut wood masterpieces crafted by the Muran artisans, celebrating the golden hands behind this historic legacy.
