World Water Day: Sgr Admin, SMC administer ‘Jal Shapath’

DC Srinagar administers Water pledge to staff raises awareness inspires action towards water conservation

SRINAGAR, MARCH 22:  On the occasion of World Water Day 2025, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, today administered the Water Pledge (Jal Shapath) to the Officers and officials here at the meeting hall of the DC Office Complex.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that World Water Day is observed to raise awareness and inspire action towards water conservation. He said that the water pledge on this day is aimed at creating a sense of collective responsibility and commitment towards responsible water use and promoting sustainable practices for efficient water management.

The DC also called one and all to reiterate the pledge to save every drop of water and work towards saving water in all ways possible at our homes and at the community level as well so that our future generations do not suffer for want of the water. He maintained that it is our religious, social and legal obligation to ensure judicious use of water, so everyone should adhere to it for a social cause and coming generations.

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) marked ‘World Water Day’ with pledge ceremonies across all municipal wards, highlighting the importance of water conservation. The main event was held at the SMC Central Office, where Joint Commissioner, Syed Abul Qasim led the proceedings. 

In his address, Joint Commissioner Abdul Qasim stressed the urgent need for responsible water use. He stated, “Water is a precious resource, and its conservation is our collective responsibility. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting it for future generations.”

Officials and staff across all municipal wards actively participated, taking a pledge to promote water conservation practices and raise awareness among residents. 

SMC urged all citizens to adopt simple water-saving measures, such as fixing leaks, reducing wastage, and using water efficiently in daily activities. “Together, we can ensure a sustainable and water-secure future for Srinagar,” concluded the Joint Commissioner.
