Woman beaten by husband, in-laws  succumbs; anger sweeps Kashmir

Srinagar: Anger has swept across Kashmir after a domestic violence victim succumbed to her injuries at SKIMS, Soura, on Sunday evening.
 The 28 year old mother of two was critically injured after she was allegedly beaten up by her husband and in-laws at her home in  Keeri village of Baramulla district.

Victim’s family members had alleged that she was beaten by her husband and in-laws on Eid. She suffered critical injuries and was shifted to SKIMS, Soura for treatment.
“She was first taken to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kreeri. Later she was shifted to SKIMS, Soura for specialized treatment,” officials said. 
Victim’s brother  said her sister was being harassed continuously by her husband and in-laws for dowry. “They tried to kill her earlier too,” he said.
He demanded strong punishment to the accused.

Police said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of law.
“Who said they (accused) are roaming free? FIR has been lodged exactly as per wishes of family. The accused have already been arrested. Don’t spread rumours and instigate people,” said Rayees Bhat, SSP, Baramulla.
