Srinagar, May 29: At least 10 officials from various government departments are set to face the action for their alleged involvement in various wrongs.

One of the top officials of the government in the civil secretariat said that Vigilance Organization has submitted a report to the government for action against 10 officials. “The investigation has been completed after which the report was submitted to the government,” the official said however refused to divulge the name of officials.

However the official said that these 10 belong to PWD, Irrigation and Flood Control and JKPCC. “There is a senior official among these tainted official, who has been attached,” the official said.

The official said that Development Commissioner PWD has to give the consent on the Vigilance Department report. As many as 100 government employees have been prematurely retired from the services in Jammu and Kashmir in the past two years for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

According to the official sources, 100 government officials have been prematurely retired from the services under Article (226) of J&K CSR. These employees have been terminated from services based on the recommendations of a screening committee headed by the Chief Secretary of the state.

The government has constituted a screening committee to examine cases related to premature retirement under Article 226 of the J&K Civil Services Regulations, 1956. The committee is considering those cases for premature retirement where the integrity of officials is doubtful, having been involved in corrupt practices. Once examining the corruption cases, official sources said the committee is submitting its report to the chief minister’s offices after which final decision is taken by the cabinet.

In 2015, official sources said the State Vigilance Organization had submitted a list of 162 tainted officials to the government. However, in July 2015, the government led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed terminated the services of only 63 officials as recommended by the committee, headed by then Mohammad Iqbal Khanday. However, some officials have brought stay from the court against their terminations. (KNS)
