Veeri acknowledges NABARD role in rural infrastructure development

SRINAGAR, MAY 30: Lauding the crucial role played by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in the development of rural areas, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Rehman Veeri said that department and the Bank should work in close synergy for the effective implementation of the various schemes/programmes on the ground.
Chairing a meeting today with the officers of NABARD, the Minister said that NABARD is playing an important role in the development of rural areas through Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). The meeting also discussed in brief about the possibilities of funding to RDD for 100% implementation of its schemes and programmes in convergence with NABARD.
The meeting was attended by Chief General Manager, NABARD, J Kumar, Managing Director NABARD Naresh Gupta, Deputy General Manager NABARD Qamar Javed and In-charge Himayat Programme, Kapil Sharma.
During the meeting, the representatives of NABARD apprised the Minister about the funding under schemes/programmes available with the organization that can be utilized convergence on mode for implementation of RDD schemes including IWMP, NRLM and monitoring of RDD works.
It was informed to the Minister that the Rural Development Department has hired consultancy firm of NABARD i.e, NABCONS as technical support agency for the Himayat programme in the state. The role of NABCONS shall be monitoring the progress of the project that includes financial, physical, MIS reporting of different project implementing agencies which are being awarded projects for skilling and placement of school, college dropout candidates.
Keeping in view the large number of unemployment in the State, the Minister said that special emphasis needs to be laid for successful implementation of Himayat scheme which trains the unemployed youth of the State.
Veeri asked the In-Charge Himayat programme, Kapil Sharma to develop close coordination with NABARD and utilize the services of NABCONS for making this vibrant scheme a success by skilling the unemployed youth of our state. Himayat scheme is not only a priority for the State government but it is being closely monitored by the Central government, the Minister added.
The Minister asked the NABARD officers to work in close synergy with the department so that targets fixed under Himayat are achieved in timely manner and benefit goes to the youth undergoing skill training at various training centres.
“Similar mechanism could be formulated for effective implementation of JKSRLM, IWMP in convergence with the NABARD in the state”, the Minister said.
