University students demand taxicab service to campus

Srinagar, March 14: The students at Kashmir University (KU) demand taxicab service from Parimpora to Hazratbal.
They said they have to take overcrowded buses to reach the university.
“A bus takes two hours and 30 minutes to Hazratbal. It halts at a number of places, causing hardships to us,” said Irshad Ahmad, a student of HMT.
The students from Patan, Sopore, Baramulla and other areas in north Kashmir said they reach the campus late due to transport hassles.
“We are supposed to reach university at 10 am, but we reach at 11 am or at 12 noon,” said Mohsin Rashid, a student.
They said that they brought the issue into the notice of the authorities concerned several times.
“The authorities shall take the issue seriously. The issue concerns a large number of students,” a student said.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Srinagar, Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh, said he would look into the matter.
“The new director has joined recently. Once he comes back, we will sort out this issue. Hopefully, we shall start the taxicab service within a week,” he said.
