Srinagar, Feb 1: Two Jaish-e-Mohammad militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Drabgam area of Pulwama district on Friday.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Drabgam area of Pulwama following information about presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

He said a gun battle ensued as the militants opened fire at the security forces.

Two militants, identified as Shahid Mushtaq Baba and Inayat Abdullah Zigar — both residents of Pulwama, were killed in the gun battle, the official said.

“The duo was affiliated with Jaish,” he said.

“Arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in case of records for further investigation and probe their complicity in other cases,” he added.

“Citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.

People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.

Moreover, thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of slain militants at their native villages of Drabgam and Arihal.

The slain were laid to rest after multiple funeral prayers at their native villages.

Notably, the mobile internet services in the district continued to remain suspended since Thursday mid-night.

 

Bullet riddled body of girl recovered in Shopian

Srinagar, Feb 1: A bullet riddled body of a girl was recovered from Draggad area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday morning.
Reports said that the bullet ridden body of the girl was recovered from Cherbagh area of Draggad today morning by the police.
A police officer while confirming the incident that the group of suspected militants abducted the girl namely Ishrat Muneer Bhat of Dangerpora Pulwama and was later shot dead from point blank range at Cherbagh area of Draggad in Shopian.
“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations taken up,” he said.
A 10-second video in which the girl is seen seeking pardon before being shot dead was released on social media by unidentified persons late Thursday night.
Police said they have taken cognisance of the video and are ascertaining the details.
The girl is said to be the maternal cousin of the militant commander Zeenat-ul-Islam who was killed along with his associate in an encounter at Katpora Kulgam on January 13, last month. (GNS)

 

2 boys injured after grenade goes off accidentally in Pulwama

Srinagar, Feb 1: Two boys were injured when a grenade they were toying with went off in Pulwama district of South Kashmir on Friday, officials said.
They said Sharafat Bashir and Junaid Bilal, both 13, were fiddling with the explosive device when it went off near Rohama, causing serious injuries to one of them. Both were shifted to PHC Rohama from where they were shifted to district hospital Pulwama. A doctor at PHC Rohama told GNS that condition of Junaid is critical as he has suffered serious wounds in his head.
Reports said the boys apparently found the grenade from the scene of an encounter at Drabgam, nearly five kilometers from spot where the explosive went off. Two militants of Jash-e-Mohammad outfit were killed in overnight gun battle with government forces.(GNS)

CRPF man injured in Budgam grenade blast

Srinagar, Feb 1: A paramilitary trooper was injured after suspected militants lobbed a grenade on CRPF party at Namtahal area of Chadoora in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday evening.
Official sources said that some militants hurled a grenade on the forces party resulting in injuries to a CRPF man of 43 Battalion.
The injured was taken to nearby hospital for treatment they said.
SP Budgam, Amod Nagpure also confirmed the attack and said that one CRPF man suffered minor splinter injuries.
Following the incident government forces launched a hunt to nab the assailants. (GNS)
