Srinagar, May 28: Thousands of people on Monday attended the last rites of a civilian who was killed after militants attacked an army camp in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district last night.

An eye witness said that thousands attended the funeral of Bilal Ahmad Ganie at his native Narwa village of the district.

Mourners raised pro-freedom slogans as his body was being marched towards a ground where his funeral prayers were offered.

Ganie, a driver by profession, was killed in an exchange of fire between militants and the army at Kakapora around 10:15 pm Sunday night. A soldier too was killed in the encounter.

He was critically injured after suffering a bullet injury in his head, following which he was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed.

Internet services in Pulwama were suspended following the killing of the civilian.

Official sources said  that the cellular companies snapped internet late Sunday night after police have sent a communication to the cellular companies wherein it has directed them to reduce mobile internet (2G/4G/3G) in southern Pulwama district with immediate effect.

The teenager, brother of the slain sumo driver, who was missing has returned home at Narwah, Kakpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday early morning.

SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudhary said that police has learnt that the missing youth has returned home.

Further investigations are going, SSP said.

Meanwhile, family sources also confirmed that the youth Mehraj-ud-Din Ganie has returned home.

However, when tried to talk to him, he was unable to speak and his family and other relatives insisted that he may be given to come “out of shock”.
