Teacher booked, suspended for ‘blackmailing’ woman in Bandipora

Bandipora, May 08: Department of Education has suspended a teacher cum compounder for blackmailing a woman in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The department took the measure after it received a report from police asking it to initiate action against the accused teacher under rules.

The accused teacher who has been arrested by police has been identified as Ali Muhammad Rather, a resident of Sarai Dangarpora Sumbal area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

A police official said that a woman filed a complaint at police station Sumbal claiming that one Ali Muhammad Rather, a teacher by profession who also runs a medical shop in the area has been sexually abusing her from past one year. The woman claimed that she had arrived at his clinic to get respite from acute pain. As per her statement: “Ali Rather administered her a vaccine and she felt unconscious. After a day, he showed her obscene pictures which he had clicked on his cell phone while she still was unconscious.”

The accused exploited her sexually repeatedly and to avoid him, she informed her husband and they both approached police station.

“We booked the accused and registered a case vide FIR number 57/2018 under section 354 B, 506 RPC against him,” said SHO police station Sumbal Parvez Ahmed to news agency CNS adding that they even have written to Education Department asking it to initiate action against the accused under law.

Zonal Education Officer Sumbal, Ishtiyaq Ahmed confirmed that they have already suspended the accused teacher. “We are investigating the matter on what basis he was running a medical shop,” he said and added that even Director School Education has sought a detailed report from them.

Meanwhile, Deputy Drug Controller Kashmir Irfana said they will send a team to investigate the matter.
