ANANTNAG, AUGUST 24: A Town Hall meeting with voters and a Walkathon were part of a mega SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) event held in Anantnag today. The events were presided over by District Election Officer Anantnag, Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid, and were attended by a cross-section of voters, including traders, the general public, vendors, women, elderly citizens, and first-time voters. Also in attendance were the Returning Officer for 44-Anantnag, the Chief Education Officer (Nodal Officer SVEEP), the Chief Executive Officer Municipality Anantnag, the District Information Officer, among others.
During the Town Hall event, the election video song “Main Bharat Hoon” (Kashmiri version), which encourages voters to participate in the elections, was played and enjoyed by the participants. The District Election Officer, in his address, urged the people of Anantnag to ensure a massive turnout in the upcoming elections. He informed the participants about the facilities provided by the district administration to facilitate the elections and educated them on the role of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other functionaries. The Town Hall concluded with the administration of the Voters’ Pledge.
Later, the DEO flagged off the Walkathon, in which a large number of participants marched with banners. The march concluded at Ghanta Ghar in Lal Chowk, Anantnag. Along the course of the march, many other participants joined in. The aim of the Walkathon was to encourage voters to participate enthusiastically in the electoral process. Participants raised slogans such as “I Vote for Sure” and “Nothing like Voting.”
Notably, the district of Anantnag, with seven assembly segments, is slated to go to the polls in the first phase, scheduled for September 18.
