Srinagar, Nov 11: Standing poplars becoming a threat to human lives on Srinagar-Baramulla highway has panicked the people living on the two sides of the road and also those plying their vehicles daily on this heavily congested road.

A legion of complainants called up Kashmir Sews Service office Srinagar over phone and alleged that the authorities of district administration Baramulla are cutting poplars on pick and choose basis just to leave the poplars becoming a threat to human lives untouched on the intervention of politicians and bureaucrats.

Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Nasir Ahmad Naqash when contacted said “the work of cutting down poplars on both sides of Srinagar Jammu highway has been assigned to J&K State Forest Corporation and the cutting of poplars on this road will be started just in the short span of three days.”

It is in place to mention here that many deaths were caused by the felling of poplars by the strong winds during rainy seasons on both sides of the road but the authorities didn’t bother to take any initiative to cut down poplars becoming a severe threat to human lives on heavily congested Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
