Srinagar, Jan 02: The strike called by the employees of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) against the alleged misbehavior of a female corporator with its employee entered into second day on Wednesday.

As already reported, a female corporator Shaheena Bhat on Monday allegedly misbehaved with SMC employee, namely Hussain Ahmad and used choicest of abuses, resulting in resentment among the employees.

Continuing with their strike on day two, scores of employees assembled in the SMC lawns. They were seen carrying placards, and raised slogans to press for the fulfillment of their demands.

Speaking with the media, president of Field Staff Association, Mehraj-ud –din Buja said, “Nobody would be allowed to ruin SMC.”

Buja said that “if Shaheena Bhat didn’t apologize, we will hit the streets.”

“She should apologize at an earliest. She should be disqualified from the council without any delay. What she has done is totally unbearable. We would continue our protests till she doesn’t apologize,” Ahmad said.

Buja further said that SMC should be kept away from the politics.

“We should not be made scape goats. We have nothing to do with the controversies. We are here to work for the people,” he said.

Seeking Governor Satya Pal Malik’s intervention he said “administration should take stern measures for providing secure environment to its employees.”

Buja showed serious anguish over the failure of the concerned authorities to disburse salaries of Safai Karamcharis through electronic means. “They have been fighting for the last one year. Government should look into the issues being faced by them. Still the employees have not been provided with the shoes. They have neither uniforms nor clothes,” he said.
