Srinagar, Mar 11 : The scientific fraternity of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir protested the arbitrary quizzing of Dr. Syed Naseem Geelani, Senior Scientist Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-Kashmir.
“Arbitrary summoning and quizzing of Dr. Geelani amounts to harassment and mental torture of such a scientist of reputes besides affecting the university academics” President SSTA, Dr. S.A. Dar said as per a statement said.
“We have already made it clear that the scientific fraternity is not opposing the enquiry conducted by National Investigation Agency (NIA) but the quizzing should be as per law and to the minimum disadvantage of the scientist and the university” he said.
“The scientist in the past has cooperated fully with the NIA, New Delhi and has attended three rounds of questioning starting from 8th of August, 2017 to 11th of August, 2017 and second round from 24th of August,2017 to 30th of August, 2017 and on 25th of September, 2017 at NIA headquarters, New Delhi making it clear of having no intentions to shy away from any investigation.”
Dar said , “The time of Scientist is very precious and by frequent calling to New Delhi, a lot of time is involved in this process and by these means the Scientist is losing the opportunities in his teaching, research and other academic activities which are going to affect his career besides the academic activities of the university in a very worst manner.”
He said, “We are hopeful of professional approach of the NIA and urge the organization to make it convenient to quiz Dr. Geelani following due process of Law and also appeal his quizzing be at Srinagar or through telecommunication and he may not be summoned to Delhi as lot of untoward incidents happened during last few weeks with the residents of Kashmir valley in other states of the country, that besides making his visit to New Delhi very insecure, alsoaffects academic activities of the university.”
SSTA also appealed Governor, J&K state, S.P. Malik who is also the Chancellor of SKUAST-K to intervene into the matter.
