Send fact-finding teams to Kashmir: Mirwaiz urges rights’ bodies

Srinagar, Dec 7: Huriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday urged various human right organisations in the world to send their fact finding teams to Kashmir for assessing the ground situation in the valley.

While addressing the gathering at historic Jamia Masjid here, he said they have already welcomed UNHRC report on Kashmir recently.

“It’s high time that the human right organisations come to our rescue. They shall the urge Government of India to curb the human right violations committed by the army personnel.”

Mirwaiz said observing December 10, the Human Rights Day, is banned in the state.

“People here are not allowed to protest against the violation of their basic rights,” he said.

He said the human rights in Kashmir were curbed “in broad daylight”.

“India, on the basis of its military might, have curbed all the rights of the people of Kashmir,” he said.

Mirwaiz said the houses were being blasted and children killed on a daily basis.

“People are being tortured in the name of CASO. Thousands have been blinded by the lethal pellet guns,” he said.

He said things have not improved in Kashmir in the last 70 years, while stricter were being imposed on the people.

“No civil rights of people will be restored until all draconian laws imposed in Kashmir will be abolished once for all,” he said.

India, he said, should accept Kashmir as “a political dispute” and call all the stakeholders to initiate a process for its political resolution.

“India should fulfil its long-pending promises made in the United Nations,” he said.
