Srinagar:  Video lectures are the new tools of the schools to reach out to the students and compensate them for the loss of classes due to the lockdown.

Authorities though had ordered re-opening of primary schools from August 19 and middle schools from August 2, the students continue to stay away from educational institutes in view of the prevailing situation.

However, noted private schools including Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar, Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School (PCHS) and others are now handing out assignments and video lectures to the students to compensate the loss of classes.

“The school had published a notice in the newspaper instructing us to collect study material, and assignments. It was difficult to reach the school as we had to doge stone pelting and restrictions but there is little choice. My child has practically been idle since school closed,” said a parent at DPS Srinagar.

Seconding him, another parent said: “Any kind of engagement is welcome at this moment. We have to make the best of this situation. Though video lessons are no alternative to classes, there is little choice.”

An official of the school said they are concerned about the loss of classes and that is why video lectures are being distributed. “We have already been preparing video lectures and the teachers pitched in to prepare assignments,” he said.

Similarly, a female teacher at PCHS said: “I have been going to school regularly to compile summaries of lessons, and prepare assignments. We can only hope that they compensate the loss of classes to some degree.”
