Srinagar, May 19: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, on Saturday said only India can give what the people of Jammu and Kashmir seek.
“Modi Ji, only you can resolve the problems plaguing Kashmir. You are the one who can heal the wounds of Kashmiris,” the Chief Minister said in her speech at SK International Convention Centre (SKICC) here.
“We are thankful to you for announcing the ceasefire for the holy month of Ramadan. People have been feeling safe here for the last three days.”
Mehbooba said the ceasefire would not have been an easy decision for the Prime Minister to make.
“You took an initiative to heal the wounds of Kashmir. You took one step; the people of JK will move forward ten steps,” she told the Prime Minister.
She said Modi was making efforts to take the people of JK out of difficult times.
“You invited the Pakistan Prime Minister, and also went there yourself. You announced ceasefire, but Pakistan has responded by killing four civilians and a BSF personal on the border,” she said.
Chief Minister said that whatever people of JK want, could be received only from India.
“JK is the biggest challenge for you. You (Modi) make all efforts to take us out from the difficult times. We may be throwing stones and picking up the guns, still we are like your children,” she said.
She said all mainstream parties believe that ‘Agenda of Alliance’ was for the development of the state.
Mehbooba said the step taken by the Central Government has raised hopes and faith of State’s people in the statesmanship of the Prime Minister.
“People herebelieve that it is he(the Prime Minister) who took this bold step and it can only be him who has the strength to move on and take the people of Jammu & Kashmir out of the present situation,” she said while enumerating several initiatives the Prime Minister took in normailsing relations with Pakistan in the past.
“When you (the Prime Minister) and late Mufti sahib drew a roadmap for the State, it gradually became a consensus political document to redress the issues facing Jammu & Kashmir”, she said adding that AoA has incorporated everything which it takes for redressing the issues of the people of the State.
“Be it rehabilitation of refugees, opening of cross LoC routes, dialogue, opening of ShardaPeth, compensation of Indus Water Treaty losses, it has everthing in it”, she said while pitching for moving forward on its speedy implementation.
