RTO organizes Road Safety Week

Srinagar Feb 04: Regional Transport Office (RTO) Kashmir on Monday organized 30th Road Safety Week across the division to create awareness about traffic rules and regulations.

The programme which commenced from today will culminated on 10th of this month. The theme for this year is ‘Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha.’

RTO Kashmir, Akramullah Tak told The Kashmir Monitor that during the week various programmes like seminars, debates, health check-ups, and vision tests will be held. The main emphasis of the programme is to sensitize the people of the state about traffic rules and regulations and various other road safety measures.

Regional Transport Officer further added: “We want people to adhere to the programme and save precious lives and resources of the state.”

Many safety programmes like awareness regarding over speeding, drunk driving, overloading, overcrowding, wrong side driving, using mobile while driving and various other issues will be held during the week.

Tak further said, “Our team will visit various tuition centers and interact with students and make them aware of road safety measures as they are young and it is important that they strictly adhere to the rules.”

“We will check that drivers have a proper driving license and wear seatbelts. We are conducting various medical check-ups and vision tests of bus drivers,” he added.

He further assured that they will try their best to enlighten people about the precautions which should be taken while driving and not to take their lives for granted.

Tahir Gillani, SSP Traffic Srinagar, said, “An Auto Rikshaw rally was held on Monday on Residency road to make people aware of the usage of meters which are already installed in autos.”

“We want to ensure safe commuting and minimize road accidents,” he added.
