Srinagar, Feb 28: Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) is sitting over the confirmation letters of over 100 Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers (ReTs) more than four months after the due date.
The ReTs in the state are paid Rs 3,000 monthly on consolidation basis for the first five years of their appointment.
Around 150 aggrieved ReT teachers appointed in October 2015 believe the DSEK has been delaying their confirmation since October.
An aggrieved teacher accused the DSEK said he denied confirmation letter even after completing the official formalities.
He alleged that Director, G N Itoo, has “hijacked our files for just a signature”..
“We even met the director on February 21 and he assured to raise our issue with the higher ups, but to no avail,” an aggrieved teacher said. “Otherwise, a ReT gets confirmation letter within two and a half months, at max.”
After they completed five years of service as ReTs in October, the DSEK, a teacher alleged, has begun to raise “unnecessary queries” over their files.
“The DSEK has even asked for category certificates of some teachers, which has nothing do with our appointments. They are harassing teachers for no real reason,” added the teacher.
Over the DSEK’s failure to clear the teachers’ files, another aggrieved teacher remarked, “We fail to understand why the director is not signing our confirmation letters. There is an uncertainty over our future.”
“On one hand we have sacrificed our five years working on meager salaries. On the other hand, we are not being handed over the confirmation letters, which would assure us of a job security,” he added.
The teacher said the DSEK has no regard for “high qualifications” the teachers possess.
“I have two postgraduate degrees. While I was denied the confirmation letter, my fellow ReT has got it already,” he alleged.
“Maybe the teachers who are given confirmation letters pay the DSEK a bribe, which I did not do.”
Director School Education Kashmir could not be contacted for comments.
